These are my tips that work on all Linux versions.

I use Linux Mint because it runs so smoothly.

Mint is actually an OS for beginners, but I also really enjoy it as an advanced user because you can set the desktop (Cinnamon) so well to your own wishes and you don't suffer from manufacturer whims like you used to with Windows.
