UX: Addressing scrollbar issues

10-13-2023
What happened to the scroll bars?

First you had good scroll bars: you could click, scroll, drag, there were even extra arrow buttons that you could click on.

But then came the UI designers. The UI designers show that they can completely destroy a well-functioning UI element. First they took away the arrow buttons. And now they keep making the scroll bars smaller every time. Some even try to make them completely invisible.

In any case, I already have the scroll bars back for my web browser. I made them neatly rectangular and visible without CSS or other code by setting some values in about:config:

widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override
Set this value to the desired width of the scrollbar, for example 16 for 16 pixels width.

widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style
Set the shape of the scrollbar here. I use 4 for a straightforward square shape.

layout.testing.overlay-scrollbars.always-visible
Set to true to always show the scrollbar.
