Recoll desktop search engine
Google Desktop is back! I used to always use that to find files on my own PC. Now I use Recoll. It works the same because it can search all files by name and also (faster than Google) texts in files. It works so fast because it maintains an index. This happens in real time so you will not be bothered by it, but you can also have it indexed periodically with cron if desired.

OpenShot Video Editor
I find this video editor more useful than Kdenlive which I always used before because all the options are obvious (no help needed): for example it automatically creates a transition if two clips overlap a bit.

Monitor your CPU, memory, disk, network with beautiful graphs and colors. Nice because it also works in the command line, so also via SSH.
