Filament enough?

10-03-2020
When you slice a 3d print, the slicer program indicates how many grams and how many meters of filament you need. But how do you know if there is still enough filament on the spool? How many meters are on it?

I just weigh the spool in advance on the special filament scale. It then indicates how many grams and how many meters are on the spool.

The scale is actually an ordinary (homemade) scale with a number of fixed tare settings. For each PLA manufacturer I use a different setting.

The scale works with a 5kg weight sensor and a HX711 module that is read by an Arduino UNO. There are also buttons to set the scale to 0 and to calibrate it. And a selection button with which I select the type of filament.

You can make the filament weigher yourself: below you have the 3D print files and the code for the Arduino. The schematic of the structure is shown in the left margin. If you need help, feel free to email me!
